Independent Artist, Jaye Newton, is now 21 $avage, meaning he just turned 21. I've personally known him since we were 11 years old. I've watched him develop and turn his passion and dreams into a reality. He is nothing more than inspiring, sincere, and of purpose.
If you were to describe your creative direction in one word what would it be?
Relatable. My creative process comes off of relatability from everything I do: from visuals, to art, to music. I create what I feel and create an experience or moment that can really touch home for me as well as a lot of others. As a fan of others, relatability is what touches me the most. I want people to look at my music or art and say "I can relate." This is my form of expression, I don't write any fictional narratives. I experience things on my own, write about it, and then express it through some creative outlet. I write about things that touch me as an individual.
What is your mental point of view for this year?
Tunnel Vision. I haven't allowed myself to worry about other people, finances or things that can hinder my growth. I'm extremely focused on creating the best things I can create at this age and point in my life. I really try to cultivate my whole movement and progression to put a stamp on what's mine. I'm trying to be clear in the things I have and want.
This is my year of _________________.
Scales, my own personal growth, my sound, my quality. I've experimented and grown a lot but this is my year to elevate and grow into the position I want.
In a world full of dream killers how do you stay inspired and what inspires you the most?
I inspire myself. You are your own inspiration. People around me that I grew up with never had the tunnel vision. People allow others to dictate their own dreams. People allow others to give them direction. Where as I don't allow that because it kills dreams. I grew a lot by doing me.
Starting from when you were back in the 5th grade doing talent shows... did you believe you would stay into music?
YES, it sounds so weird to say but literally everything I'm doing now.. I said I would be doing 5-10 years ago. I use to carry a composition notebook around with me EVERYWHERE I went and would write everything I would do up until now for every year I've done music. It was extremely ambitious of me but I knew at a young age I would cultivate my own life. I was young but I knew the strength I had and the determination. I've always put out good energy and it has definitely done me good.
What do you plan on doing when your platform is bigger and more impactful?
I already put inside my mind that I would only use my arts to be able to influence people in a positive way. I want more people to respect my crafts so far to where they can appreciate what I say and understand it. They can believe in the power of my voice or their voice. I want to be able to preach POSITIVITY, INDIVIDUALITY, INSPIRATION. Everyone looks at others and thinks #goals but they never look at themselves as inspiration. I want them to believe that you can be the best you possible if you just focused on yourself (individuality) and being the best you possible. It's okay to be a black sheep or sore thumb. You don't have to be focused on money and vanity because those things don't define happiness. Be able to experience life and love with no regrets. I want people to follow their dreams and aspire to be the best person they can be.
You say follow your dreams, what would be another dream for me?
Music is the easiest way to express your dreams. We use music to express experiences and hope. My dream is to touch on different entities such as visuals, architecture, and design. I want to shed light on the big and small screen. I want to get to a place of creativity that doesn't limit me to one craft>
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I don't believe in that. When you don't get to that plateau in 5-10 years, you limit yourself and tend to doubt your dreams. I have no idea where life will take me. I just hope and pray I will get to do what I want, musically, then.
